Ears can explore the amount of attention available, a choice about listening, or how an exchange becomes understandable.
What this dream can mean
Messages available without a shared direction
More information can create competing requests rather than a clear next action.
A chosen level of listening
Participation can need a pause, a quieter setting or another workable form.
The form an exchange takes
Appearance, gesture and pace can affect communication without determining its worth.
Which version was yours?
Unusually large ears catch a remark that others barely notice
A small detail becomes difficult to leave in the background. This may picture attention being drawn toward something that matters differently to you. The imagined remark is not proof of a secret, actual gossip or what its speaker intends in waking life.
Several ears receive incompatible instructions from different directions
Information is available without agreement about the next action. This can resemble requests that each make sense alone but cannot be followed together. The arrangement may concern choosing a priority rather than a duty to understand or satisfy every person at once.
You cover your ears during a loud gathering and remain nearby
The amount of participation changes without requiring you to leave the occasion. This may fit wanting a quieter interval while still valuing company. The gesture can concern the setting and your available attention rather than prove rejection of the people present.
An elaborate ear decoration catches on the clothes you are wearing
A chosen appearance interferes with an ordinary movement. This can resemble presentation needing a more workable arrangement for the activity at hand. Adjusting or removing the decoration need not judge vanity, identity or whether you deserve the attention it attracts.
Your reflected ears disappear but gestures and signs remain understandable
An expected form changes while connection continues in another way. This may picture an exchange needing unfamiliar terms rather than ending altogether. The impossible appearance does not assess actual hearing or establish that you are failing to listen to someone awake.
A person cups an ear to receive words you are saying quietly
Your message needs cooperation, pace or a different setting to be received. This can resemble wanting an exchange to become understandable without making it louder or more forceful. The gesture does not prove agreement or reveal how the actual person values your words.
A way to think about it
Ears in a dream can make listening visible as part of an encounter. They may look unusually large, appear in several places or become the focus of somebody’s gesture. The image can concern how much information arrives and what sort of participation you want. It does not establish that a real conversation was overheard or reveal a person’s intentions toward you.
Large ears catching a quiet remark can make something small feel difficult to ignore. The remark might be welcome, distracting or irrelevant to the activity you wanted. This can resemble attention being drawn toward a detail others treat as minor. The dream does not prove that a whisper contains a secret or that its speaker is hiding something.
Many ears receiving different instructions can create abundance without agreement. Having access to several messages is different from knowing which one should guide the next action. A shared task with incompatible requests may offer a parallel. Covering your ears in a loud room instead concerns the level of participation itself: you may want a pause without needing to solve every message.
The visible ear can also become part of an appearance. An elaborate decoration that catches on clothing may make a chosen look interfere with an ordinary action. This can picture a form of presentation needing different practical terms. Enjoying or removing the decoration need not become a judgment about vanity, identity or how much attention you deserve.
Communication can continue through an impossible arrangement. Ears may disappear from a reflection while gestures and written signs remain understandable. This can make the usual form of an exchange seem unfamiliar without requiring connection to end. Another person cupping an ear to receive your quiet words can instead bring pace and cooperation into focus. A conversation that needs a different setting or clearer terms may offer a useful comparison. These original reflections stay with the imagined listening encounter; they cannot assess hearing or establish gossip, betrayal or a health condition. A familiar sound, accessory or conversation can provide direct context, while your particular response determines whether any broader comparison fits.

STORIES & CONTEXTThe stories behind the symbol
The stories behind the symbol
The five supplied Ears accounts assign forecasts to appearance, number, cleaning, injury and hearing. Miller predicts a malicious observer; Fontaine and Noe attach news, reputation, friendship and social-role outcomes. The full Artemidorus section includes household obedience, artisan, servant and lawsuit distinctions, with transcription gaps retained. The Book of Luck gives a favorable letter forecast. These are attributed period claims, not evidence of actual hearing, other people’s conversations or a universal relation between appearance and character.
Compare the historical accounts
These are the authors’ historical interpretations. Their forecasts and period judgments are preserved as source material, not as predictions or established meanings for your dream.

FOr to have many eares, is good to him that would have any one obedient to him, as wife, children, servants: to the rich it signifies great renown of his good, if the [illegible passage] ares be fair and well shapen; but to his ill, if the ears be ill favoured or deformed.
This dreame is ill to a servant, as also to him which hath a suit in law, be he the Plaintiffe or Defendant: but it is good to an Artificer or one that workes with his hands, for he shall have many that will imploy him. To lose the Ears betokens the contrary to all that is aforesaid: to clens [illegible passage] ones eares is good newes which shall come to us on some side; contrariwise, the ears beaten and chafed, foretell ill newes.

Original source (English)
If a man dreams his ears be fair and well shaped, it shows he shall come to great renown; but if he dreams his ears are ill-favored and deformed, it shows the contrary. This dream is ill to a servant, and those who have a lawsuit, if he be a plaintiff or the defendant, but it is good to an artificer or one that worketh with his hands, for he shall have many that will employ him. To dream that one picks or cleans his ears, betokens that good news shall come forth one side or other. But to dream that the ears have been beaten or chafed, signifies we shall hear ill news. If any one dreams his ear is hurt or split, he will be offended by some one that belongs to him, or by some friend. If he dream that his ear is quite off, he shall be utterly deprived of their friendship.
